Welcome to the Ashfield Community Gardeners website
Ashfield Community Gardeners is a group of local residents working together to establish community gardening in our area. We have a 'trial' garden in Summer Hill that was started in January 2010 with the assistance of Ashfield Council. The Eora Community Garden is located at 135 Smith Street. The Eora Garden is a small and delightful garden that is a shared communal growing space. We use chemical-free gardening and crop rotation practices.
Ashfield Community Gardeners Plan of Management outlines how we garden and look after the space.
If you would like to join in, please come along to along to the next working bee, these are held on the second Sunday and fourth Saturday each month 9:00-11:00am. But of course you are welcome to check out the garden at any time.
Next working bee is Sunday 13th May 2012.
Members pay a small annual fee ($20/$12 concession) that almost covers our insurance costs. We hold a couple of fundraisers each year to cover the ongoing costs of materials. We also rely on the generosity of members and the community who donate plants and gardening materials.
We have a Watering Roster so that the garden is checked every day and watered when needed.
We have compost bins that you can add your kitchen scraps to. They are hidden behind the shed. Please add your scraps to the one labeled ‘active’. And remember to add lots of dry leaves or shredded newspaper each time.
